Two Cases of Chordoma

Abstract
The chordoma is a relatively rare neoplasm which is believed to originate from remnants of the embryonic chorda dorsalis. Since then, tumors of this tissue have been described arising along the entire axis of chorda from the sphenoid region to the coccyx but rarely from cervico-thoracolumbal region.
Two cases of chordoma, one of which arised from lumbar spine, were presented with literature review.
One case was a 31 years old Korean male who had a nodular mass on the lumbosacral region with buttock pain for 18 months. The physical examination revealed abscence of both ankle jerk and osteolytic change in sacrum.
Another case was a 42 years old Korean male having the lumbago with radiating pain to left leg for 40 days. The myelogram showed complete obstruction of dye column in the third lumbar vertebra. The grayish jelly like masses were removed in the¢¥ extradural space of both cases and they were verified as chordoma in pathologic examination.
